This is an important food item for wild Desert tortoises, who actively seek out this herb in the mid-to late spring months, and it's one of the species we call "tortoise crack." Requires gritty soils with excellent drainage. Best to grow in an area where tortoises cannot freely access it, they'll normally eat the entire plant at once.
