Opuntia 'Baby Rita' (Prickly Pear) is cross between Opuntia basilaris and Opuntia violacea "Santa Rita.". The resulting plant is a "mini" version of the gorgeous purple cactus seen throughout the desert southwest. This species loves heat, and also survives freezing (ours has survived to 17F.)
It doesn't take up a lot of space, but makes up for it with gorgeous flowers and bright purple pads during the cold winter months. Grows up to 12 inches tall and 24 Inches wide.
