Malacothis glabrata, commonly called Desert Dandelion, is an annual member of the Sunflower family.
After a winter season of sufficient rainfall, this is a common species in southwestern deserts. It gives incredible displays of pale to bright yellow flowers, sometimes with a red dot in the center.
Desert dandelion loves disturbed areas, and is a wonderful species to add in areas that need some color. It will freely re-seed itself if left to complete it's life cycle.
Desert Dandelion is also a preferred spring food item for tortoises.
